Dear Agung,
I'm a working parent with two young kiddos. Some of you are also parents, some aren't and want work flexibility for different, equally valid reasons. For those who aren't currently parents, I hope you don't mind indulging me while I state this: for the record, I believe that in this day and age it is achievable to be both a fantastic, involved parent and a driven, successful professional.
This is can be a controversial statement, because of course no one can truly "do it all", and yes, some things "have to give", but that doesn't mean that it's not true. And in our recent survey, I was glad to hear this optimistic sentiment is held by so many of my peers - 92% of working parent respondents agree.
I think that work flexibility has to increasingly be a key part of this equation, though. But what kinds of work flexibility are most helpful? Can flexibility be a substitute for childcare? How can both moms and dads benefit from work flex? If you (or anyone you know) are curious about these topics, please check out the amazing panel of speakers for a great free webinar tomorrow on What/Why Parents Need to Know About Work Flexibility.
Now on to great job search information for parents and non-parents alike! Why a Job Search Should Make You Uncomfortable
Sometimes, a job search can seem a lot like leaping into a kind of void. Remember the scene from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," where Indy must step into a yawning canyon -- a leap that seems guaranteed to end with his demise? That invisible "bridge of faith" is one in a series of ever-more-terrifying challenges that Jones must face to find the Holy Grail. While There may be no clear path to career success, and there can be a good deal of uncertainty, anxiety, and outright fear as you work to find your footing. But there's an argument to be made that your job search should make you uncomfortable -- that good things can come from embracing the new, and seeking out fresh challenges.
